How anonymous AI chat works here
IncogChat does not proxy your messages through our servers. The path is browser → local Gemini Nano → streaming reply in the same tab. Below is the flow most users follow the first time.
Open IncogChat in desktop Chrome
Use a recent Chrome build that exposes the Prompt API. Firefox, Safari, and mobile Chrome cannot run this local chat path yet. If the API is missing, the setup guide explains which flags or updates to check.
Download Gemini Nano once
Chrome’s Optimization Guide fetches the on-device model to your profile disk. The download is managed by the browser, not by IncogChat servers. After it finishes, inference can continue without sending prompts to our backend—because we do not operate one.
Chat in a temporary session
Type normally. Streaming replies appear in the same tab. Context for follow-ups stays in that browser session until you close the tab or refresh. Treat it like a private whiteboard, not a synced cloud inbox.
Leave without an account trail
There is no IncogChat login, password reset, or stored chat history on our side. Your privacy boundary for message text is the device and browser you already trust—not a chat SaaS database.
When private AI messaging helps
Use IncogChat when the priority is keeping draft text off a third-party chat backend—not when you need live web search or the largest cloud models.
Draft sensitive notes locally
Brainstorm wording for personal emails, journal prompts, or medical appointment questions without pasting them into a cloud chatbot first. You still decide what leaves the device.
Incognito-style research helpers
Ask for outlines, explainers, or rewrite suggestions while keeping the conversation out of IncogChat’s servers. Pair with your own research—the local model is a small assistant, not a live web search engine.
Offline-capable sessions after download
Once Gemini Nano is on disk, many interactions can run without a chat API. Network may still be needed for the site shell or ads on content pages, but message text is not uploaded to IncogChat for inference.
Shared or work machines with less residue
Skip creating yet another AI account on a borrowed laptop. Close the tab when finished; IncogChat does not keep a cloud thread under your name.
What is private—and what is not
“Anonymous AI chat” here means we do not run a message-logging chat API. It does not mean the internet disappears. Read the boundaries clearly before you paste anything sensitive.
What we do not run
No chat API that receives your messages. No IncogChat account database of conversations. No training pipeline that ingests your prompts from this product.
What third parties may still see
Your host or CDN can log ordinary page requests (IP, user agent, URL). On content pages, ad partners may use cookies or similar tech under their policies and your consent choices—never your chat transcript from us.

System requirements
On-device AI depends on Chrome’s hardware and disk checks. If those fail, IncogChat cannot invent a cloud fallback—by design.
- Browser: Google Chrome 148+ on desktop (Windows 10/11, macOS 13+, Linux, or Chromebook Plus).
- Disk: About 22 GB free on the volume that holds your Chrome profile (for Gemini Nano).
- Compute: GPU with more than 4 GB VRAM, or CPU with 16 GB RAM and 4+ cores—subject to Chrome’s own availability APIs.
- Flags: If the Prompt API is off, enable
chrome://flags/#prompt-api-for-gemini-nanoand relaunch. Some devices also need Optimization Guide bypasses—the in-app guide lists current steps.

Does IncogChat log or store my conversations?
No. IncogChat has no chat backend. Prompts and replies are processed on your device by Chrome’s built-in Gemini Nano via the Prompt API. We do not receive or store message content.
Is IncogChat truly anonymous and private?
Chat content stays in your browser session. We do not require accounts. Hosting providers may log standard request metadata (IP, user agent). Ads, when enabled on content pages, are governed by Google AdSense policies and do not receive your chat text from us.
What browsers support private on-device AI messaging?
IncogChat requires Google Chrome 148+ on desktop with the Prompt API / Gemini Nano available. Other browsers and mobile Chrome are not supported for on-device inference yet.
Do you sell my data or train models on my chats?
No. We do not sell chat content or use it to train models. The site is funded by optional display ads on informational pages, separate from the local model session.
How is on-device AI different from ChatGPT or cloud chatbots?
Cloud chatbots send your prompts to remote servers for inference. IncogChat uses Chrome’s local Gemini Nano so generation happens on your machine after the model is downloaded. That means no IncogChat API key, no cloud chat transcript on our side, and a smaller model than large hosted systems—trade accuracy and knowledge for privacy and offline capability after download.

Desktop Chrome on Windows 10/11, macOS 13+, Linux, or Chromebook Plus; roughly 22 GB free disk space on the Chrome profile volume; a GPU with more than 4 GB VRAM, or a CPU with 16 GB RAM and 4+ cores. Exact availability is decided by Chrome’s Optimization Guide on your device.
Does closing the tab delete my chat?
Yes for IncogChat’s in-page session: messages live in memory for that tab. Closing the tab clears the thread in this app. Chrome may still keep the downloaded Gemini Nano model on disk for future visits until you remove it via Chrome settings or flags.
Where do ads appear on IncogChat?
Display ads may appear on pages with explanatory publisher content (such as this homepage). The interactive chat and setup screens do not show Google-served ads, because those screens are application UI rather than editorial content.
